Hydration: how to and how much water to drink

As the hot summer days are upon us, we stress even more than normal about the importance of “drinking water”. As I tell people to “drink more water”, what is enough? I know I wonder about this.

The old wisdom was to drink eight glasses of water per day. That is 64 ounces or about 1/2 gallon, which seems like a lot. If you have ever cramped in the middle of the night, you will wish you had consumed enough of this precious chemical combination.

Sometimes missing is the consumption of enough electrolytes. You can have plenty of H2O, but if you don’t also replace your minerals appropriately, you will be awakened by that cramp! Usually you can replace the minerals with your diet. But, who eats whole foods have a balanced diet these days? (Another topic to cover one day.)

Have a listen to this video: The Science of Hydration – How much water you Really need. Listening to this video as ZaHir was doing his chores., I found it to be interesting. (He has been finding some really interesting and informative videos lately. Good for him!)

Be safe out there! Let’s get properly hydrated year round! Just another step towards self-defense. And yes, drink more water!
